Express Entry: Canada invites 4,200 immigration candidates
On September 30, a new Express Entry draw was held where the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invite 4,200 immigration candidates. The draw also featured Federal Skilled Worker Program candidates for the third consecutive time.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score in this new invitation round was 471, one point lesser than the previous all-program draw, which was conducted on September 16. A large number of Invitation to Apply (ITA) featured in the draw revealing a strong statement of intent that Canada remains committed to drawing high levels of immigration in 2021 and beyond.
Canada’s Express Entry system manages the profiles of candidates for three of Canada’s most important economic-class immigration programs — the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSW), Federal Skilled Worker Class (FST), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). In the Express Entry system, qualified candidates for the FSTC, FSWC, CEC programs, and some Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates are awarded scores based on the Comprehensive Ranking System or CRS.
The Comprehensive Ranking System considers multiple factors including work experience, education, age, and proficiency in English or French. The highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pool receives an invitation, and at that point, they can apply for permanent residence. The new invitations round was Canada’s 164th Express Entry draw conducted by IRCC. It was also the 25th draw of the year and the fifth all-program draw conducted since Canada went into COVID-19 lockdown on March 18, 2020. While the majority of Express Entry draws normally involves candidates from all three programs, since the start of the coronavirus pandemic and the introduction of restrictions Canada’s immigration ministry started making exceptions to this rule.
